Look at this! Click HERE for Harriet Taylor Upton's History of the Western Reserve, written in 1910. The entire book is available for your download on-line.
Here are some excerpts from her Introduction:
"In writing this homely history of a vigorous, prosperous people, the author has purposely kept away from usual lines. The reader will find little geology, topography, or zoology; little of that which is military or political; but instead, the home life of the pioneers and the domestic conditions of today are treated with great fullness."
In the last paragraph of the Introduction, Ms. Taylor-Upton says, "If she has been able to make any newcomers or any young people realize the debt they owe the people who first felled this forests, first turned the sod and built the highways and homes, she will be repaid fully for her two year's work."
Over time, The Western Reserve Historical Association will post paragraphs of interest to this website. Members who request it will receive a regular installments from the book via e-mail.
Here is another really great resource! Go to: www.usgwarchives.org/oh/know.htm This is a compilation of historical Cleveland Plain Dealer Newspaper Articles assembled in 1925 by S. J. Kelly. Thanks to Darlene E. Kelley for this information. This information is now hosted by USGenWeb.com, which is a free genealogy website. The contributor to USGenWeb.com (Darlene Kelley) has given permission for us to link to her materials from the Western Reserve Heritage website. There is so much information here, it would take you days to read it all. As time permits, we will work on sorting and organizing this material for our readers. This material is as prepared by Ms. Kelley. Possibly due to scanning of material, there are some spelling and punctuation errors. (Letters missing in words, etc.) Please try to read the intended text, rather than noticing the cosmetic errors.
